We are excited to be hosting an up-and-coming exhibition at the Jasmax Auckland studio featuring new sculptural works by Rene Jansen.

The Oratia-based sculptor says he has relished the opportunity to exhibit at Jasmax. “This new series of works is in part a response to the exhibition space itself, as well as being a culmination of my explorations so far.”

Elemental Formations will showcase a series of wall-mounted relief sculptures that feature precise execution in contemporary materials and abstract geometric design; simple, yet subtly provocative and surprisingly ethereal.

Influenced by the Brazilian Neo-Concrete and Zero art movements, Jansen consciously limits the range of materials and elements he uses in his body of work. Constructed from contemporary materials such as

aluminium and lucite, the artist also includes materials like brass and textiles that brings an anachronistic element to his work.

The constraints contribute to the intensity and coherence in this series, and demand a surprisingly intuitive and vulnerable response from the sculptor. The challenges of physical assembly itself lead to innovation and forward movement, and paradoxically create a myriad of what he calls 'unexpected environments’.

Rene’s exhibition will be on show from 20 June to 22 July during office hours (8.30 - 17.00).
