We'd like to congratulate the client team at Lane Neave Lawyers, and the property development team of 141 Cambridge Terrace, as the projects were awarded winners in the Commercial Architecture category at the Christchurch Architecture Awards on Thursday 26 May.
The award is recognition of the combined efforts of the client, design and contractor team, to deliver a high quality outcome for the building's users, and for the urban fabric of Christchurch.
The project has been recognised for its “subtle and sophisticated contribution” to the group of new commercial buildings lining Ōtakaro-Avon River. The glazed facade and two linear atria form a strong connection between the inside and outside of the building, as they allow discrete views into the office and culture of Lane Neave.
The Awards Jury commented: "The building acknowledges the city’s once formidable modernist past, while clearly belonging to its own time. A glass curtain wall, angled to address the river and a bend in the road, defines the main façade while inside and out, ribbed, fair-faced concrete panels are consciously applied for decorative effect. The interior material palette is understated, which emphasises the drama and generosity of the two atria, where twining plants contrast with the solid and sculptural main stair. In a city that will see many concrete, steel and glass buildings emerge in the post-earthquake cityscape, the elegance and restraint of Lane Neave marks it out as something special.”
The event night was held at the Hagley Oval Pavilion, where 28 projects were awarded across seven categories across the Canterbury.
