Winners of the AAA Visionary Architecture Awards were announced last Friday 5 December. We’re pleased to congratulate the Jasmax project team who claimed the top spot in the Work in Progress category, with their design for a Mobile Transit Lounge.

The AAA Visionary Architectural Awards (formerly the Unbuilt Architecture Awards) “encourages unrestrained conceptual ideas in the field of architecture.”

The notion of the Mobile Transit Lounge is an initiative by Auckland Transport to provide a re-locatable high amenity transit lounge, that acts primarily as a communications tool to generate consumer interest in public transport.

With a view to creating a beacon for Auckland Transport, the project team developed a flexible, folding form for their Lounge design. This unique form combined with a Multimedia Notice Board, Bike Hire exchange and event pavilion, promotes interaction with the city as an engaging platform from which to share information and solicit feedback.

The Judges commented: “The Mobile Transit Lounge is a welcome addition to the urban fabric of the city, with its distinctive folded form that has the potential to play out at different scales. It also offers a fresh identity to the changing face of transport in Auckland.”

Congratulations to the project team, Matthew Glubb, Laura Cooke, Mark Craven, Hayden Grindell, Raphaela Rose, Patrick Loo and Jun Tsujimoto.
