“Working alongside world class academic and research institutions is a huge privilege. It is my mission to help clients develop those special spaces and places that will maximise the incredible potential of the people who learn and work inside them.”
As an architectural briefing specialist, Roberta Johnson works closely with clients developing both aspirational and functional briefing strategies as well as undertaking strategic master planning on large education and research campuses.
She excels in developing and coordinating briefing processes that enable Universities and other multi-faceted institutions to manage the transition into new spaces designed to enable future learning, research and ways of working.
Roberta’s broad architectural experience, attention to detail, and design awareness allow her to move confidently between many roles including facilitation of stakeholder workshops, space planning, conceptual and strategic vision setting, and the synthesis of complex technical and specialist requirements on large scale projects.
Roberta joined Jasmax in 2014 with previous experience in residential and commercial architectural practice including a four-year sojourn in London, working for TP Bennett Architects.
Prior to joining Jasmax, Roberta ran her own design consultancy business, providing residential and design communication services. In 2013, she wrote ‘Navigating toward the Future: ASB North Wharf’, a book for ASB Bank and Kiwi Income Property Trust celebrating the design partnership between ASB Bank, BVN Architects and Jasmax.
During this period, Roberta was also employed as a professional teaching fellow at the School of Architecture in the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries (NICAI) at Auckland University, teaching architectural design papers from 2003 until 2012.
Roberta’s proven abilities as a writer and designer with first-hand experience in the tertiary education sector, and her many and varied roles as a skilled communicator provide her with a unique ability to create rapport with clients on many levels. Roberta currently also works closely with the Jasmax Marketing and Business Development team to expand Jasmax's communications strategy.
As a university student, Roberta won the NZIA Travel Award Prize for best graduating student project nationally and the Senior Prize in Architecture Property and Planning at Auckland University School of Architecture.
Jasmax projects she has worked on include the Ngā Wai Hono Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences Building on AUT’s City Campus opened in 2018, and University of Waikato’s 2037 Strategic Masterplan.
