Jasmax were commissioned by St Andrew’s College to design a playground for the Pre-school and Junior school students to go with the newly built Stewart Junior Centre.
Located in the heart of Christchurch on a site filled with trees, the school’s aim was to create a “fully customised child’s paradise” that inspired children to explore their world in a playful environment that also supported their physical and psychological development.
The Jasmax landscape architecture team worked closely with the St Andrews staff and a play consultant, Tina Dyer, to devise creative space that provides a fun developmental journey for students aged two to seven. Features include colourful ‘play eggs’, a ‘rope nest monster’, a ‘chirping nest’ and a climbing adventure ‘play forest’ that includes tunnels, bridges and a three-metre slide. Balancing challenging play with safety, the playground includes finishes such as shade sails and soft colour surfacing.
