The Sugar Club is Peter Gordon’s latest restaurant, located on the 53rd level of Auckland’s Sky Tower. The design team were challenged to provide an authentic, yet iconic New Zealand restaurant experience within an awe-inspiring location, where local and international patrons could come for an outstanding dining experience. From the outset the design team were committed to creating an environment so compelling it would leave diners raving passionately about their experience, bringing them back time and time again.
To achieve this, the design response grew out of Peter Gordon’s references to the Luca Guadagnino Italianesque film, ‘I am Love’. The film was used as an engaging platform on which to envisage a dining experience with international polish and sophistication, evoking the glamorous Art Deco and early Modernist era of the 1920s and early 1930s - exuding an innate passion and style that would undoubtedly create the sort of compelling dining experience that today’s generation would be drawn to.
Overall, the design team have carefully distilled and deconstructed these key design cues to inform the look and feel of The Sugar Club. The resulting design aesthetic and interior features are elegant, timeless, and modern, creating a contemporary and relaxed dining experience.
